Dharma Punks was inspired by Jack Kerouac’s Dharma Bums (Penguin). Read that and you’ll find inner peace.
For real punks, you better read England’s Dreaming by Jon Savage (Faber & Faber). It tells you the story from closer to the flame.
The first haiku from Stonehenge was written by Basho (from ‘On Love and Barley, Haiku of Basho’, Penguin.). The creed is, of course, from Kerouac.
Addendum, February 2023: You should check out Ian Marchant’s “A Hero for High Times“. It traces the links between beats, hippies, and punks. And it has a very extensive list of references.
But you don’t really want to read books. You want to listen to the music. All of it. But start with Art Brut.
